About Me

My name is Wade. I'm LogicGunn on AO3 and Tumblr and a few other places. 18+. She/Her.

I'm not doing the Snowflake Challenge this year, but in the spirit of it I figured it was about time I updated me About Me.

I'm a long time lurker and newish fic-writer, although I guess after one and a half years posting on AO3 I'm fairly established now.

I live in Scotland with my wife. I have a BSc(Hons) in Biology and Maths that I mostly only use to supplement my fic writing and trying desperately to make heads or tales of the Stargate address system (no amount of expertese in statistical analysis can make up for the mish-mash of conflicting canon information).

Just like this time last year I'm still reading all the McShep fanfictions in chronological order on AO3, I'm now on page 185 of 628 (as well as keeping up with the newly posted fics). I'm not skipping anything, no matter the tags, so it's been an interesting journey so far. I don't really have any squicks so I'm cool with most things, but I've read plenty of fics that I wouldn't otherwise have been interested in.

When it comes to writing, I'm a big fan of SGA/Video Game Fusions and Rodney Whump and Tropes. Oh how I love writing tropes. I'm currently trying to write a McShep Dead By Daylight fic. We'll see how that goes. There's so very little in the game to work with, and on one hand that leaves a lot of room for interpretation, but on the other hand it also leaves huge blanks that I'm going to have to fill somehow. I have some ideas but I can't decide between a happy or a sad or a bittersweet ending.

I also have a McShep/Firewatch fic that I've been working on for what feels like forever. It's fighting me every step of the way.

I’m tentatively planning a Halloween McShep fic. Question: what do you think John would dress up as if Elizabeth acquiesced to his nagging repeated requests for a fancy dress party? (Year 1, limited supplies, Teyla will probably have to trade for fake blood)

...that the size of an entry wound is often smaller than the actual caliber of a bullet due to a multitude of external factors including skin stretchiness, velocity, and distance, but the exit wound is usually hella big. Never thought I’d end up scouring pro-NRA blogs for useful information.

(I’m writing another part to my Long Dark universe. Spoiler alert, someone gets shot.)

Picking my forever fandom is easy for me because I only have a couple. I'm not one to jump from fandom to fandom, I tend to get my claws into one thing and hang on for a long time. My oldest fandom is HP, I got into that not long after book one was published, but it's not my forever fandom. That honour goes to Stargate Atlantis.

I'm late to the SGA fandom. I skipped it when it first aired cause life was too busy to get into another show and I was heavily into SG1 so it got put off and put off and forgotten about. It wasn't until a couple of years ago that I sat down and watched it and I was hooked from episode 1. I like so much about it, the premise (I love long lost colony sotries, Voyager was my favourite of the Treks), the big bads (their aesthetic appeals to my inner goth, and seriously, no matter how silly they look the thought of being an alien's food is terrifying), the script is tight and fantastic and the visuals are stunning. But the biggest and most important thing that I love about SGA are the characters. Like SG1, it's easy to love them and follow them from world to world, problem to solution. Especially John (the "I'd do anything for any one of you" military leader, thrust into leadership unexpectedly and walking the line between the military and his own heart) and Rodney (the brilliant but ascerbic scientist, who went from a misogynistic jerk in SG1 to a loveable but flawed grouch in SGA). No one but David Hewlett could have taken that guest character and made him a firm fan favourite.

I like it even more than SG1 and I'm gutted I missed out on the early fandom days, but I was thrilled to find out that people still talked about it and made fanworks, even ten years after it's over. Discovering the world of SGA fanfiction was like all my christmasses come at once (especially when I clocked onto the McShep vibes), and discovering people were still writing them was like adding in all my birthdays. I read fics for a couple of hours every day and write bits of my own fics whenever I can. It's the first fandom I've ever posted a fic in, and I can totally see me still doing this an twenty years time.

My first ever fandoms were Harry Potter and The X Files. I had a near-obsession with Snape and Scully. I think they were the first fictional characters I ever related to, and I hit puberty a little early so...this was my desktop background for  years.
Mulder and Scully

I mean, what's not to love? I had "the Scully" haircut for a lot of my teens, red and blowdried in a flip. It suited me actually. :) My first username was FallenDeathEater, a nod to my interest in Snape.

HP stuck with me, the X Files got relegated to a storage box in my happy place. I've had fleeting interests in various things throughout the years, but nothing I read fanfiction of until a couple of years ago when I discovered Stargate Atlantis for the first time. I adored SG1, but when Atlantis came out there were some big life changes so I didn't make time or space for it and I skipped it completely. I couldn't tell you why I sat down and watched episode one, but I did, and episode one turned into season one, then suddenly I'd watched the whole damn show through and went back to the beginning again. I was hooked.

Rodney and John
I clocked onto the McShep vibes pretty quickly and shipped them hard. All those little moments between them drew me back to fanfiction for the first time in over a decade and what a big ship it must have been back in the day, over 12000 fics pairing Rodney and John on AO3, (compare that with 5700ish for Jackson and O'Neill, or 4300ish for O'Neill and Carter). It still ranks 34 in AO3's ship stats of 2019, and for a show that ended 12 years ago that's all kinds of impressive.

I soon discovered that the fandom was still active, a group of the nicest, most supportve fans you could ever meet, and, after much deliberation, started posting fics on AO3 for people to read. I'm in the UK so a lot of days I wake up to comments from people elsewhere in the world and it's such an amazing feeling to create something that other people enjoy.
