Day 3: What's a favorite, or at least memorable fandom meeting/interaction that you've had?

Honestly, the SGA fandom is so incredibly awesome and wholesome (especially considering all the smut that we read/write...), almost all the interactions with other people I've had have been wonderful. I've never been to a convention, I find crowds difficult to be in, so every interaction has been online.

I love that I've gotten to know people from all over the world (I also love just how many SGA fans live in Scotland like me!). I love that we have such different lives but we all have this thing in common that makes us happy.

I think the most memorable interactions I've ever had were the comments I got on my the first fic I posted. I was hella nervous, kind of felt like I was intruding in someone elses fannish space, but everyone was so welcoming. It made it much easier to share other stories. Whever I have doubts about posting I think back to how I felt at my first comments and try to capture that feeling of belonging.

I'm not someone who belongs to many social groups or socialises easily, so becoming part of a fandom was a little scary but incredibly eye opening.

THIS! Because in all honesty, this is sometimes what it feels like going into a fandom and being "the new person". But every fandom I've ever been in has grabbed me and pulled me in to celebrate with them. It's awesome. Hell, FANDOM is awesome! :)

Fandom is great. It's the most welcoming social thing I've ever done and i'm so glad I too the chance with it.

The SGA fandom was so damn welcoming. Not a jot of drama either which, after time in the MCU and SW fandom, I appreciated!

The lack of drama is a god-send. My other half is in the HP fandom and the ProSnape/AntiSnape discourse gets really ugly sometimes. I'm sure there were fandom wars in the SGA fandom back in the day, but these days people seem to respect and make room for everyone.

I could have written the exact same thing. I started reading fanfic about 10 years ago and was so happy and excited to find my “tribe” Fandom has given me so much. I finally am not just that “weird girl” there are many, many of us.

Fandom has given me friends. It doesn’t matter if I never get to me you all, I still consider you friends.
Fandom has given me back my art and has helped my talent grow.
I’m so happy that you have had a wonderful introduction to our little group. We are much richer for having you with us.

I read a lot of HP fic when I was a young teen, but the culture was so toxic that I noped out after a couple of years for my own sanity. Coming back to fannish spaces was a little daunting, I expected more of the same, so I was so completely floored by how welcoming everyone was in the SGA fandom. I'd discovered this (long cancelled) show that I lived and breathed, and there were other people geeking out just like me? And they were nice?

Best thing I ever did.

I've found most fandoms to be like a fluffy version of the Borg. "Resistance is futile, you will be assimilated!" *G*
