I'm back at work, and as a nursing assistant my entire job is nothing but acts of kindness. Today I comforted a man who just lost his wife, and performed the last offices on her. There's something kinda humbling about taking care of the deceased. There's a custom in Scotland, and I'm sure other places in the world, where you open the window to let the departed's soul out. I'm not one to believe in a soul, but I do it anyway because you can't always know the beliefs of your patients.
My wife is working nights for the next six nights and to take care of her I will make her something nice for dinner as often as I can. Night shift is difficult just by virtue of staying awake when your body is telling you to sleep. I'll miss her like heck though.
