Dear Creator,

Thank you for signing up for the Rare Femslash Exchange! I am excited to receive your gift, and I hope you get one you love in return.

The most important thing I want you to know is I'm pretty easy osy, so though I've written ideas here if they don't do it for you please ignore them.

I would prefer canon settings for the fandoms in this exchange, but there's no need to tie anything to actual events; it can be divergent, adjacent, or compliant as needed. Some of the pairings don't interact in canon at all. For Original Works, I have some ideas outlined, but again I'm fairly open to most things.

🖤Treats are welcome in all forms, and I intend to give some too if I have the time and inspiration. If there are any pinch hits with fandoms I'm familiar with, I'll try to fill them as well.🖤

LIKES

Genres:

DITL

missing scenes

firsts (date, kiss, time)

established relationship fluff

any other kind of fluff

H/C

whump

darkfic

epistolary

only one bed/hypothermia/any other excuse to get characters in close proximity

POV can be a character in the pairing or an external character

Other: I prefer sex scenes to lean M rather than E (where the reader is watching from the other side of the room rather than being squished in between the characters) or to have enough emotional weight not to be straight up smut without context // please also note that sex is not necessary if that is not your thing, I adore fics without and very few of the things I've written have been PWP // asexual romantic characters/pairings are also fine if that's your thing.

DNW

Miscarriage/Child Death/Pregnancy/Kid Fic

BDSM

Cheating/Breakups

Omegaverse

Partner abuse

Rape or Child Abuse on screen (discussion about or reference to past experiences is totally fine, I enjoy angst and healing)

Character Bashing

I will leave the pairings in your capable hands, however just in case you would like some inspiration, I'll write some of the things on my mind for each of them. Again, absolutely no expectations that you'll run with any of these, just ideas if you want them because some of these pairings have zero or minimal interaction in canon and I don't want you to feel adrift at sea.

Star Trek: Voyager

Seven of Nine/Samantha Wildman - maybe Samantha helps Seven with her lessons in human behaviour and they grow close? Feel free to include Naomi in the story, as long as nothing unpleasant happens to her.Or go wild with a rescue fic!

Seven of Nine/B'Elanna Torres - scenes with them in the Jeffries tubes live in my head rent-free. Ditto arguing in front of everyone and anyone. Someone tells them to get a room.

Seven of Nine/Kes - Kes is gone before Seven wakes up in canon, but what if instead she stayed? How would Kes' influence affect Seven's journey back to humanity?

Dragon Age

Morrigan/Female Warden - the whole time I played DAO I was trying to romance Morrigan. When I found out I couldn't, I was gutted. I would love to see the romance/attraction develop between them in a canon setting or even simply a steamy scene. Just in case it's important to you, my canon warden was a human mage, with a justifiable fear of the Templars, who tried to mediate peace where she could and would have allowed Morrigan to do the ritual. But feel free to use any of the backgrounds that suits you.

Female Adaar/Cassandra Pentaghast - Cassandra, yet another loss for the queer women in the Dragon Age fandom, who turned me down so bashfully it was hard to be mad with her. I would love to see her change her mind some time after that scene, perhaps over a shared interest in romance novels and dragon slaying?

Josephine Montilyet/Female Trevelyan - I am a sucker for the courtly way these two end up getting together. I'd love it if Trevelyan was either well polished or incredibly rusty in the current courtship norms!

Bethany Hawke/Isabela - I have never considered this pairing before, and keep picturing a game of Wicked Grace.

Star Trek: Enterprise

Hoshi Sato/T'Pol - I love these two bonding over shared interests, and Hoshi's interest in other races and languages giving her the insight to try to embrace unknown cultural traditions for the lone Vulcan who must struggle greatly with all the emotional human energy on the ship.Likewise, I enjoy the premise of Enterprise as the beginning of Earth's journey to the stars and all the unknown pitfalls when two species from different worlds might stumble into. If either, or both, Hoshi or T'Pol trip up in their attempts to get to know each other, that'd be a delight to read too.

Original Work

Aging Female Lighthouse Keeper/Ghostly Mermaid (OW) - something about how the ghost has always been there, maybe it ends with the Keeper finally dying and the her companion is waiting for her?

Ancient Goddess/Bridal Sacrifice (OW) - this could be wholesome or really steamy depending on your muse, I would appreciate a happy ending, but the Bride can still be sacrificed in that.

Knight Lost on a Quest/Determined Wife Who Won’t Forget Her (OW) - epistolary might be nice here, with them both missing both missing each other terribly. Feel free to have the Knight return alive or dead.

Medieval Knight/Nun (OW) - I feel like this could be really erotic. A one time event or a recurring one? Do they fall in love? Do they never speak again?

Spaceship Engineer/Passenger on that Spaceship - a wealthy passenger who bought her way onto the mission clashing with the grumpy engineer who earned her place with blood sweat and tears.

For Original Works set in space, I prefer NASA-punk over Space-fantasy but feel free to hand-wave complex futuristic things like FTL for plot (or go into great detail if that's your thing!)

Thank you for whatever you choose to do. I hope you have fun creating.

LG 🖤

comments

Slow burn.

Nova/Jenny Stahl - they start to get close after hours, maybe sharing a drink and a cigarette, both of them have a difficult history with the men in Megaton.

Female Lone Wanderer/Reilly - they don't intend to catch feelings, it's just practical, warm bodies keeping the cold off, isn't it?

Female Lone Wanderer/Sydney - wounds need patching after the shootout in the National Archives.

Amata Almodovar/Female Lone Wanderer - playmates to teen bffs to girlfriends...maybe Amata gets a little giddy when the Wanderer wins a fight against Butch?

Female Lone Wanderer/Sarah Lyons - how does the leader of the pride wind down after a hard fight with the Enclave?

Fallout: New Vegas

Corporal Betsy/Angela Williams - Betsy's always run a little hot and cold with the women in Camp McCarran, but since she started therapy for her trauma, things are settling down...maybe she finally asks Angela out on a date instead of trying to get in her lab coat, and maybe Angela finally agrees instead of turning her away?

Corporal Betsy/Female Courier - does a low karma Courier take Betsy up on her offer the first time they meet? Or does a high karma courier come back later when the dust has settled?

Female Courier/Ghost - two sharpshooters' paths collide at the Mojave checkpoint. Is it just a one-night thing? Or will the courier make her way back after visiting New Vegas?

Female Courier/Julie Farkas - the Courier and Julie get matching tattoos.

Female Courier/Lacey - a familiar face arrives at the outpost but doesn't seem to recognise Lacey...

Ghost/Lacey - Ghost keeps to herself, Lacey tries to get her out of her shell with whiskey and a regular game of caravan.

Ghost/Rose of Sharon Cassidy - No nonsense Ghost and straight shooting Cass? Something tells me they'd rather pull out their own teeth than talk about matters of the heart...

Lacey/Rose of Sharon Cassidy - as Cass starts to chafe under the red tape keeping her in the Mojave outpost, she and Lacey butt heads.

Rose of Sharon Cassidy/Female Courier - Cass doesn't expect a stranger to help her fix the broken pieces of her past.

Rose of Sharon Cassidy/Sunny Smiles - talk about a grump/sunshine pairing!

Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness

Janice/Lara Croft - something about a rebellious Lara and a bored Janice sharing a cigarette on a street corner is very intriguing...especially if it leads to a quiet corner somewhere.

Horizon

Aloy/Tilda van der Meer - this is one where it might run dub-con or unhealthy or duplicitous, and that is totally ok with me.

Alva/Beta - these two are so soft and sweet, I feel like Alva could really bring Beta out of her shell with gentle enthusiasm.

The Long Dark

Astrid Greenwood/Molly - Molly comes across a weak and weary Astrid in the snow, hauls her over her shoulder and takes her home to thaw out.

Voyager

Seven of Nine/Samantha Wildman - maybe Samantha helps Seven with her lessons in human behaviour and they grow close? Feel free to include Naomi in the background, as long as nothing unpleasant happens to her.

Borg Queen/Seven of Nine - this one has the potential to lean dub-con on account of the nature of the borg (vs the nature of humans), but that is not an issue for this specific pairing, and should your muse lean towards anything a little unusual, that will be fine too

Seven of Nine/B'Elanna Torres - scenes with them in the Jeffries tubes live in my head rent-free

Original Work

Spaceship Engineer/Passenger on that Spaceship - a wealthy passenger who bought her way onto the mission clashing with the grumpy engineer who earned her place with blood sweat and tears.

Scientist on a Space Mission/Other Scientist With A Radically Different Field of Expertise - I'd love a scenario where they are living on a ship or a space station with a mission to colonise a new planet. Maybe they keep meeting in the kitchen where they are forced to sit together. Maybe they will start sharing hot beverages while arguing over the conflicts between their relative areas of interest.

Starship Captain/Space Pirate - pirate boards the ship to find the captain is her ex-wife?

Queen/Lady-in-waiting (OW) - secret rendezvous, stolen kisses, and lots of plush fabric.

Queen Secretly in Love With Her Knight/Her Loyal Knight - Chivalry, armour, corsets. <3 Knight can be openly or secretly a woman (trans characters are fine)

Post-apoc city leader/Post-apoc city leader - feel free to go heavy on the post-apoc vibes!

Maiden Living in a Tower/Lady Knight Who Thinks She’s In Need of Rescuing - would love it if the maiden is a total asocial grump who hates being around people and has poor manners

Princess Imprisoned in Tower/Burglar Who Thinks Tower's Unoccupied and Breaks in To Rob It - would love it if the burglar is genuinely a criminal rather than a dashing rogue

For Original Works set in space, I prefer NASA-punk over Space-fantasy but feel free to hand-wave complex futuristic things like FTL for plot (or go into great detail if that's your thing!)

Thank you for whatever you choose to do. I hope you have fun creating.

LG 🖤

comments

It is my first time, I am very excited to receive your gift. I hope you get something you love in return. Firstly, I’m pretty easy osy, so though I've written some ideas for each fandom or pairing in my letter, please feel free to go in another direction if you want to. They are only there to help if you need inspiration. I read widely in fandom!

If you want to write an entirely epistolary story, please feel free.

DNW:

pwp, though mentions of and allusions to intimacy are just fine (I prefer M ratings to E)

pregnancy and pregnancy related themes

character bashing

a/b/o dynamics

General Likes:

For this exchange I would prefer canon or canon-adjacent/divergent settings rather than AUs

I enjoy dark fics, so dark themes are welcome apart from anything pregnancy related. MCD is fine, ditto angst, whump, H/C, etc

Fluff is also equally appreciated! As is humour, character study, pining (requited or otherwise)

For romantic pairings I’d prefer it to remain flirty/innuendo/mentions of or soft focus rather than detailed smut

For all the pairings except Lucy West & Family, Seven of Nine & Naomi Wildman, Rodney McKay & Jeannie Miller, or Dave Sheppard & John Sheppard, feel free to write either / or & (romance or friendship) if you wish even when I have specified otherwise. I picked one way or the other to fit all my nominations in, but the preferences are mild

STARGATE

Any & Any: this was the only pairing I nominated with a specific idea.
Day 20: A random character shows up at your doorstep at dinnertime saying a friend sent them. Why did your friend send that person, how does it go, and what do you talk about?

Well, anyone that knows anything about my fannish life would send Rodney McKay my way, because they know how much I adore him.

I would feed him spaghetti and meatballs, and we would talk about our partners and grumble about our childhoods and stay up all night watching films and complaining about the bad science. In the morning we'd go somewhere for coffee and bagels and then part ways with an awkward hug. :)

comments

It's one of my top 10 TV/Film moments of all time and it gives literal chills, so whenever I hear this song I get goosebumps.

It's not technically a fandom for me, but I can remember the first time I heard that song out of the contect of The X Files - my first viewing of Scream. It plays during the curfew montage. (I have a secret and shameful love for the Scream films.)

Also, I hadn't listened to it for a while so you can imagine how utterly floored I was when Peaky Blinders started airing! Haven't watched the show at all though.

Fun Fact - this the the number one song on my Serial Killer WIP playlist. ^^

I should also add that watching SG1 and having John de Lancie show up was wonderful (he's Q on TNG) and also Robert Picardo in SG1 and SGA (The Doctor in STV).

comments

I have a handful of fics gifted to me (birthday presents and responses to my prompts) and a wonderful desktop wallpaper that's cycled onto my monitor on the regular, and a podfic of one of my first fics which blew my mind. It feels utterly criminal to me that they didn't explore it in canon, and usually I'm easyosy about what does and doesn't happen in fiction. Maybe the creators were going for a BFF thing, maybe, but it sure seems like JF and DH played it romantically. Sometimes it's kind of inconsistent, like certain writers/directors were pro-McShep and others were anti-McShep, and I switch from "is this queerbaiting?" to "is this queer-coding?" so fast sometimes I get whiplash.

And then there was that ending.

Look, I adore Jennifer, absolutely adore her. Her youthful vigour was a fantastic addition to the show. But the delicious chemistry she had with Ronon lit the screen on fire, so to dump that and push her to Rodney (IIRC so that "the geek gets the girl for once") made me squick a little bit. DH and JS have some really good scenes together, but they don't have much in the way of sexual chemistry. It feels so familial and not something that's going to end up in tangled sheets (which is actually the same way I feel about John and Teyla).

comments

I won't automatically stop reading, but I'll probably have to go slower and/or reread so I can keep track of who's saying/doing what because they don't assign the character to me as easily as a name would and so they alter the flow of the story. I have read a couple of fics where there were so many epithets I just couldn't finish them because I couldn't keep up and it wasn't worth the effort.

On that topic, you really can't overuse character's names in a fic - they become background in the same way all the commonly used words do (the, and, it, when, etc) - so if you're using epithets to avoid that I'd gently encourage you not to do that.

Something I actively dislike is when characters use pet names that are OOC. There are exceptions where a writer has altered the characterisations in their AU enough that it works (without pushing too far into OOC territory), but those are few and far between.

Please don't change the POV within a paragraph. At the very least you need a new paragraph, but ideally, you need a new scene after a line break.

Some of the older fics I've read on AO3 and LiveJournal don't have paragraph breaks. A wall of text is really hard to read, but thankfully it seems like that kind of formatting issue has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

I don't have any trope squicks. I'll read just about any McShep fics with no exceptions (as long as it is a McShep fic and not, you know, a fic where John and Rodney are necking briefly in the background of another ship's fic). The less said about that the better.

In terms of a single fandom, drama and hostility will stop me getting involved with the social side of being in a fandom, but I'm perfectly capable of enjoying something without actually interacting with anyone else, and have done that before when I've enjoyed something but the fans were constantly flinging shit at each other. It's lonely, but I'm just not willing to watch people harass and bully others over an opinion or a ship.

There is enough room in the fandom ocean for all the ships.

comments

It's a Canadian post-apocalyptic survival game where the two main characters crash their plane during an EMP storm and have to survive on a wintry island.

John is transporting a snarky Canadian scientist from Resolute in Nunavut to Thule Airbase in Greenland when the Aurora Borealis lights up the sky and an unseen force overloads the chopper and causes them to crash. They're split up when they land and have to find eachother, then survive and try to find a way to get rescued. It's a bit of a fluff fest with a little angst. Between them they have the skills to survive and 90% of the story is John and Rodney falling in love.

The Long Dark on AO3.

comments

Day 5: Compare and/or contrast your very first fandom obsession and your latest fandom obsession.

There are two parts to my fandom history. The before days when I was very young and into bad boys and smart, competent women, and the now days when I'm into (ahem) complexity and scope, with a very large gap in between when I was absolutely a fan, but very much apart from fandom.

THEN

My first ever fandom obsession was The X Files, and I was definitely too young to watch that show but my mum had a videotape of the Duane Barry/Ascension/One Breath arc and when I confessed to watching it in secret she let me watch it on TV. I was mad about both Scully and Mulder (together and with others) for over a decade, spent my (very limited) pocket money on any magazine that had the show or the characters or the actors in it, and when I got my first paying job I bought the video collections of all the series one by one. I stepped my toes into fandom; chatted on forums and read fics and joined mailing groups and discovered FFN, and it was glorious.

And then the great FFN 2002 purge happened, deleting not just the smut but all the (fem)slash with it because everyone slapped an NC17 rating on anything even remotely queer. To say I was distraught would be an understatement, but I was a teen. So...

This traumatic event (because seriously, FUCK YOU FFN) coincided with the burgeoning relationship between my wife and I, so I got distracted and pulled out of fandom so fast I'm pretty sure I had whiplash. I dipped my toes into reading Snape-centric HP fics on and off, but for most of the rest of the next 15 or so years, I was too disillusioned with fandom and too distracted by life to step into any kind of fannish space.

NOW

And then I discovered SGA.

I fell hard and fast onto the Rodney/John wagon early in season 1 and I started wondering was it just me? Or did other people ship them too? So I looked it up and not only did people totally ship them, there were over 600 pages of fics dedicated to their relationship on a fan-made archive called AO3.

Mind. Blown.

I missed a lot of happenings in those 15 years. With all that time between fandoms, my feelings and interests were different. I mean, as a teen I mostly dug smut, right? But as an adult I wanted something more from my fandom. I wanted angst and H/C and AUs (and yes, smut), but I also wanted complexity and scope and it wasn't enough to just read other people's ideas, oh no, I had to go and get some of my own. And those ideas screamed to be written down.

So I dipped my toes into the writing thing, then I dipped my toes in the sharing thing, and even though I was convinced that posting my first fic would either drag me into a fandom war or doom me to another purge, the world didn't end. I honestly think people are just a lot less argumentative than they were when I was in the XF and HP fandoms. Maybe we're all old and jaded, maybe we're just tired. It almost certainly helps that SGA finished airing years before I even watched it, nevermind looked for the fandom.

(Secretly, I think that having a reliable archive helps too.)

It all couldn't be more different this time around, and now I've written and shared something like 50 fics, which isn't something I ever thought I'd do because I fucking hated creative writing as a kid. I would never have posted anything I wrote back then - and we can all be thankful that my teenage scribblings aren't lurking in a damp, dark corner of the internet.

comments

There have been some major life changes in the past year, unrelated to the pandemic, that have had a knock on effect on everything. It's given me more time for fandom, both reading and writing, but instead of focusing one one fic at a time I've had a hundred ideas at once and so I now have several long WIPs that I've been flitting between for the past 6 months.

I really need to knuckle down and get one of them finished.

On the plus side my reading rate has been just about the same.
